This year’s RECON conference in Las Vegas was a big success, and we were there along with about 34,000 of our closest friends. There is no better event for networking in the shopping center industry, and we had a great time creating new links with people in all sectors of the industry. Deals were flying thick and fast, while everyone learned more about products, services, and best practices from industry leaders.
The Las Vegas Convention Center was the site of this year’s conference, and was a perfect venue, with tremendous space and excellent facilities. It has a total of 3.2 million square feet, and it’s in walking distance to more than 100,000 hotel rooms!
Thanks to a new booth location right behind the registration area, Property Capsule could get everyone’s attention right away. We created quite a stir with our drone, which got some great aerial photos of the deal making and leasing mall areas. Radley Angelo of Spark Aerial flew it around on Monday, and the crowd enjoyed waving to the passing camera. It was a really effective way to cover the vast tradeshow floor without getting in the way. Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland has an interest in drone technology and was very enthusiastic about Property Capsule’s “dealcam”.
Our CEO, Alex Markson, did an interview with Pushmote, and a live Periscope interview with Brian Lutz for ICSC. There were amazing speakers each day, including Peyton Manning of the Broncos, Michael Francis from Dreamworks, and other authors, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders.
The speakers were inspiring, but probably the best feature of RECON is the networking and deal making that goes on. They say you can do a year’s worth of business in 3 days here, and we believe it. People come to the conference looking for partnerships and contacts, and a huge amount of business gets done over the course of the gathering.
The energy at the event was contagious and things got rolling very quickly on Sunday. That day featured a great keynote from Peyton Manning, as well as some really useful sessions on omni-channel retail, property redevelopment, and more. Emerging professionals got a boost from sessions on resume development and presentation skills. We enjoyed meeting with other vendors who are making a difference in the industry. They are an inspiring and hard-working group!
For future reference, Monday’s the day you don’t want to miss. Attendance dropped significantly for Tuesday and Wednesday. The entire event was well worth attending, though, and we would have hated to miss the pool party that helped close out this year’s conference.
It seems like RECON gets better every year. It is THE networking event for the shopping center industry, without a doubt. The energy from this event helps propel us through the rest of the calendar. Property Capsule made some great contacts and generated a lot of interest this year, and we look forward to the next conference, which will be at the Las Vegas Convention Center, with headquarters at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.
